This begins with sourcing a Ford 1600cc cross-flow cylinder block, crankshaft and connecting rods.
The main components can be found in any 1600cc Ford Escort fitted with 711M block and 2737E rods.
The first step is to ultra-sonic test the donor block and check the cylinder wall thickness to determine exactly how far it can be re-bored.
A number of other components are required to complete the conversion which includes a longer timing chain and special longer tension bracket.
Lotus Marques has manufactured new bronze tension brackets that are approximately 10mm longer between the pivot centre and the spring plunger pad so the tensioner piston contacts correctly.
This bracket is necessary to accommodate the difference in height between the taller Ford 1600cc block and the Lotus 1500cc cylinder block.
Other parts required to complete the conversion include a timing chest spacer, longer tensioner thread and longer tensioner piston.
