QUESTION
Do you have a paint code for the "Ferguson" grey used in the engine bay etc of the 1967 Lotus Elan+2's.
I have tracked down the code for the original French Blue used at the factory on my car, but need help with the grey.
N.R. - Melbourne
ANSWER
The only listing is for a "Fiat Grey" paint in the comprehensive paint table available from the Lotus Factory
To the best of my knowledge there is no reference to a paint manufactures code for "Ferguson Grey"
"Ferguson Grey" paint was used by Lotus to paint Twin Cam cylinder blocks
Rumour has it that Lotus bulk purchased the same grey paint as used on Massey Ferguson Tractors - hence the name for the paint.
A small amount blue paint was then added to provide the necessary hue required to produce the paint for the cylinder blocks
To the best of my knowledge, all the Elan +2 vehicles left the Lotus Factory with a black painted engine bay
In 35 years I have never seen a standard Elan +2 vehicle with grey paint in the engine bay
However I have seen many strange things and modifications where Lotus appear to have run out of product
My own Elan +2 is an example of this where odd Lotus Factory fitted parts have been installed. eg. the interior lamps and the rear number plate lamp.
I am the second owner and I know it has not been modified by the previous lady owner
